چکیده

An oversampling, noise-shaping digital-to-analog converter architecture is designed and implemented in a Xilinx Spartan-II FieldProgrammable Gate Array. The system uses 128-times and 256-times oversampling and has zero-, first-, and second-order noise shapers which may be selected by the end user in real-time. 1-bit DAC output is passed through a 4-pole analog Butterworth filter. Particular emphasis is paid to minimizing silicon space and achieving performance comparable to that of Phillips Semiconductor’s UDA1320ATS device, as well as allowing the ned user to select oversampling rate and noise-shaping order.

Linearity Enhancement of Multi-bit A/d and D/a Converters Using Data Weighted Averaging

A dynamic element matching algorithm, data weighted averaging, is introduced for use in multi-bit data converters. Using this algorithm, distortion spectra from DAC linearity errors are shaped by rst-order noise shaping, resulting in a dynamic range improvement of 9 dB/octave when DAC errors dominate. Combining this technique with random dithering eliminates the aliasing of the DAC errors into ...

An Audio ADC Delta–Sigma Modulator with 100-dB Peak SINAD and 102-dB DR Using a Second-Order Mismatch-Shaping DAC

A second-order audio analog-to-digital converter (ADC) modulator using a second-order 33-level tree-structured mismatch-shaping digital-to-analog converter (DAC) is presented. Key logic simplifications in the design of the mismatch-shaping DAC encoder are shown which yield the lowest complexity second-order mismatch-shaping DAC known to the authors. The phenomenon of signal-dependent DAC noise ...

OversamplingFilter Design in Noise-Shaping Digital-to-AnalogConversion*

A number of oversampling filters in association with a heavily oversampled and noise-shaped digital-to-analog converter (DAC) are presented for high-resolution applications in professional and consumer digital audio environments. Computer simulations of oversampling filter, noise shaper, and DAC errors are described, together with results to demonstrate interactive performance dependence on fil...

A Noise-Shaping Algorithm of Multi-bit DAC Nonlinearities in Complex Bandpass ∆ΣAD Modulators

This paper presents a technique for improving the SNR and resolution of complex bandpass ∆ΣADCs which are used for wireless communication systems such as cellular phone, wireless LAN and Bluetooth. Oversampling and noise-shaping are used to achieve high accuracy of a ∆ΣAD modulator. However when a multi-bit internal DAC is used inside a modulator, nonlinearities of the DAC are not noise-shaped ...

A ΣΔ CMOS ADC with 80-dB Dynamic Range and 31-MHz Signal Bandwidth

A new ΣΔ modulator architecture is proposed that shapes DAC mismatches in a manner similar to quantization noise shaping, allowing operation with low oversampling ratios and compact logic. The concept is demonstrated in a fourth-order cascaded system running at a clock frequency of 500 MHz and digitizing input frequencies as high as 31 MHz with 80-dB dynamic range. Fabricated in 90-nm CMOS tech...
